Apocalypse Floor wars
START TIME : 12ish
Apocalypse Battle – Floor Wars
Mission: Take and Hold : 1 Major objectives, 2 minor
Battle Field setup:
Main Objective : Take and hold the War Titan
Minor Objectives: Take the enemies Bunker/or Trench , Enemy Head Quarters
Special Rules: Specific pilots are nominated from each team. Nominated pilots (squad or Independent character operate (teleport engineers/pilots) and use the Titan : 6 inches from the objective controlling player can operate the Titan.
At the center of the Town is a broken Titan, abandon from the last battle. Trenches and buildings was setup near the forested area of the town. Approximately surrounded by the Trenches , ruin buildings and 4 Battle bunkers . heavily fortified surroundings makes the objective an easy target to well trenched units from any direction and attack or taking and holding it would not be easy as it is within 18-48 inches of the trenches.
Armies :
( Ultramarines supported Imperial Guards) Deadeye(ultramarines with IG) , Commisar Alfred (Armored Company with Banebaldes) Total of 6250 pts. vs. (Space Marine – Wolves ) Henri ( Space Wolves- Iron Wolves), Jesse (Pre-Heresy Luna Wolves) 6000 pts.
Deployment:
Wolves won the bidding on who deploys first
ALLIES Deployment:
The Imperial Army deployed in a phalanx formation of Alternating Heavy Armour and heavy infantry support from left to right . Group Left a group of IG infantry supported 3 to 5 Tanks (2 Leman Russ and Predator and Vindicator) , The Allies Center was made up of a Space marine contingent (Librarian) and some Heavy infantry (mostly Deadeyes contingent) While Commisar Alfred’s Armour was concentrated into 2 formation the Center– Right was given 2 Baneblades with some light infantry support from Deadeyes light infantry While the HQ was being held by the rest of the Armoured company.
Reserves: IG units have between 5-7 Airmobile infantry formations/including suicide squads (Deep Strike), 4 other IG infantry formations and 2 Terminators squads.
WOLVES Deployment :
The Luna Wolves and Space wolves decided a defensive Formation deploying heavy infantry (Long Fangs and Devastator Squads on/in or near the trenches). An infantry unit was left to defend the HQ (unfortunately it was the deepest of our line which we almost regret on the last turn)
So from left to right we evenly deployed 3 Long Fangs, 3 scouts with sniper rifles and 3 Dev squads throughout the our defensive line. In the Center –Left the Luna wolves concentrated most of our Heavy Armour ( 3 Land Raiders), Terminator squad/s – with intention as being our Titan destroyer(as we expected the Allies Attack using their sheer amount of numbers and overwhelm us and probably take the Titan while we fire on their units at long range and slow them down then use Deep strike and drop pods to finish them).
Our Reserves : Luna wolves : terminators Deep Strike
Iron Wolves 4 Drop Pods(2 Dreadnoughts, Wolf Lord w retinue, Grey Hunters), 1 Vindicator and 3 Rhinos(Rune Priest, Grey Hunters,2 BC)
Turn One:
Wolves :
Movement : heavy infantry moved to better position (trenches and ditches) intention to shoot on the second turn:
Luna wolves sent in a unit with Plasma grenade (with the intention of destroying one of the Super heavy tanks).
Mobile units moved in at the rear of the IG Left Line (manage to disrupt part of the IG Armour units that was to support the Librarian.
Fire support: No major Gunfire - we realized none of our heavy weapons will reach the IG current position.
Although we manage to get 1 wound from the Librarian which he saved !!!
Allies:
Movement : Ultramarine Librarian dashed towards the objective on his bike- the rest of the intended strike force move up to support
Allies is just 4 inches away from the titan. Dropped in his terminators near the Titan covering his Librarian to take the objective- (2 turns and the titan will rise and will be used against us).
First Shots from the Allies mostly misses but manages to some of our troops (minor losses) but many shots falls short!!! But the Luna wolves Dreadnought was Hit and lost his last Cannons.
While a unit of airborne infantry dropped behind our lines and Blew up the Land Raider Terminus. “ Holy Crapp that’s the only tank we have that can stand up to the Titan, the 2 remaining Baneblade” !!! Luckily it hit the squad the blew it up- as consolation- unfortunately it also killed a sniper from my wolf scouts. . . Its force decision next turn for the wolves.
Close combat continues with terminators and dreadnought edging the Ultramarines 1-2.
Turn Two :
Wolves:
Deployment of reserves :
Drop pods Moved in to surround the Cut off units of the Ultramarines from the rest of their Army – we must stop that Librarian!!!. The Units from the Luna Wolves was posed to hammer the Isolated Ultramarines. While we give supporting and covering fire (also effectively covering the line of Site from enemy tanks against the bulk of our units :D ) From our drop pods . using them as shields from heavy long range fire support of the IG – Heavy Guns .
Movement
My Rhinos and Vindicator from the Flank started to stem off the armour support units
Shooting :
The Luna Wolves hit the Ultramarines Hard but failed to Finish off them off . The iron wolves gave whilthering fire to destroy the remnants of his force (the librarian is down to 1 wound. – ( Next turn or else TITAN LIVES!!!)
Sniper shots were fired at IG infantry units :which was pinned , Psychic attacks – did some damage to enemy infantry but other Shooting did minor damage to the enemy units
Destroying a tank and damaging a Leman Russ. (Forced the Allies to turn and attack the units. The scout blew a Leman Russ Battle cannon .
Rune priest Called the storm on him giving him 5+ cover – save
Assault. Assault by the Luna Wolves on the Ultramarine units deciminated its numbers to 1 and as the Ven Dread Helped finish him off with Power fist attack . Close combat have started to tilt the favor on our side.
Allies Turn :
Reserves comes in for the IG – This time they had the advantage Drop behind enemy lines at lease 4 airborne squads 2 1 turn from our HQ which was under defended (1-5-man squad), then just behind my disembarked units Loads of Infantry (4 -10man IG squads ) popped from their deployment zone to shoot at my units behind: (THIS MOVE Created a problem for us our own HQ will be overrun!!! in the next few turns and with no possibility of counter attack from any of our forces …Tactically outstanding for the IG Kudos!!!)
Flank action:
Shooting the whole Allies where busy – immobilized my Rhinos and destroyed my Vindicator battle cannon – Scouts and Grey hunters to lest than 2 units each!!!
The 4 IG troops choose the Rune priest as their target Miracles do Happened !!! He survives 40 Shots with his last wound!!! 30 Misses from 2 laspistols , 3 meltagun shots. And saved on a cover save on the Plasma Pistol shot !!!
“ All that shots for 2 wounds!!!” – “Alfred use your battle cannon against the blood Claws .. “ Deadeye answered
Left me with 2 units left to fight 4 squads the 3 – Blood Claws and the Priest
Center of the line
Heavy Fire support was given to the Ultramarines from long range Battlecannon to great effect almost halve if not destroyed the Luna wolves attacking units (infantry 3 terminators was lost and 4 Space marines !!!
Fire from IG attacking the lines from behind : almost killed off a Luna wolf unit of Infantry and killed 2 Long fangs with M. Launchers… Its the Allies turn to smash our lines from behind!!!
Turn 3
Wolves Movement :
Not much movement this time for the Wolves Busy thinking of which to shoot hehehe !!!
Shooting :
Center:
Shooting Action we finally Finally Killed the Librarian
Flank Action :
Shot the hell out of 2 IG squads – one was down to 3 the other 6
Backend action:
shooting heavy fire fights between IG units starts – Luna Wolves hopped to turn the advancing airborne units and hold the HQ. to no avail only got 1 IG out of 6 not enough to stop them.
Assaults: BC attacked and destroyed the remaining IG troops in front the Rune Preist and the 2 grey hunters whipped the 6 man strong but manages to run !!!
Turn 3 – Wolves Hold the the Center But no pilots available to use the Titan!!(he got killed during the assault) The Iron wolves pilot was busy fighting IG n the flank!!!.
ALLIES
Movement :
Here we saw the movement of the 2 baneblades and all IG tanks towards the center to retake the Titan .. (a bit little to late )
Shooting : the open fire at all visible targets :D
Unlucky shots 1 shot by the baneblade misses and killed the IG from behind – saving the Power armored Luna Wolves to hold the HQ objective – Lucky miss!!!
But they manage to knock down my Dreadnought and blew up the Ven Dread !!!
Dead eye decided to move and shoot instead of assaulting my BC formation. Deciminated it to 4 units. While the shooting comes to an end!!! Failing to take the HQ and drop pods Held the Tanks where they are as it needed to take a detour to reach the target :D effectively blocking the Advance
Almost a Win for The Wolves on the Last Turn
LAST Turn
Wolves move in for the kill destroyed the most the isolated pockets of IG .from our backside .
I on the other hand consolidated my position and took the objectives
Allies Last hurrah !!!
Comisar Alfred already decided to withdraw but the ultramarines energized to salvage a devastating last turn to take as many wolves as he can and continued the last turn shooting at anything that isn’t IG :D He was able to kill the rune priest and finish off 2 more Luna wolves in PA and destroyed the scouts and the remaining Blood claws.
RESULTS:
Wolves Win 2 objectives to 1

Support Your Local Store
First, our group is called “101st Galleria Regulars”. So what is in that name? 1) 101 is just a number we plucked out of the air. 2) Regular is true now, because we play regularly… almost. 3) Galleria is for the mall (duh!) in which we play in. The name of the group sounds like an army regiment name, so that it won’t sound nerdy and for that macho and coolness factor some of us all so desperately need… plus it is way better to say a name that answers two questions at least (ie where do we play and how often) and gives an impression of huge numbers, than simply referring to ourselves as “our group”… and you better thank your lucky stars we are not named “The Emperor’s Pink Dice Chuckers” or maybe even “The Happiness Club”. Having said all that, we are not an organized group as in one with a president, treasurer, muse… we are just a bunch of persons (boys, men, girls, women, gays, lesbians – catch all so I won’t alienate anybody, just in case) who enjoy playing with toy soldiers together. And we are all equals (regulars… get it?). It may seem someone is boss sometimes, but that is just because that someone is like that anywhere he goes… just his own personal “airness”.
Now, we can’t just walk into Galleria, put some tables in there, put table cloth on top of it, and then terrain, and then go ahead and play. We need to have a store there who would host us. Or else the guards would kick us out in a jiffy. That store, in case you still don’t now yet, is Neutral Grounds (NG). And if you don’t know the owners of NG yet, please take time to know them so you know when to yield that chair (private joke... if you don't get it, contact me).
NG hosts us because NG sells the toys we play with. The NG staff helps us in setting-up those tables because they want us to play, because theoretically the more we play the more interest there is in the game, more products sold, and eventually there is money that flows to their paychecks. Also, us playing in Galleria exposes us to the “mall traffic” that would eventually generate interest (but the chance of enticing a new player into this hobby we have is really small, given it’s nature… you know, money-time-effort intensive).
We, on the other hand, like to be able to have that place we can all look forward to go to, on a weekend or a holiday, to play toy soldiers with like minded, sensible, mature persons. I personally like the air-conditioning, accessibility to all types of grub and drink, rest rooms, and the SIGHTS, which we usually don’t have in the comfort of our own homes / garages / basements / construction sites. I don’t have anything against playing anywhere else, but I like the 99% probability of seeing a pretty face. Whatever your reason is, I think we all agree that the best place for us to play together is in Galleria. Either that or we go ahead and change the name of our group.
So, before we think about getting that new toy somewhere else that we all want right now, let’s think about that store-player relationship thinghy that we have. There is really a lag in the arrival of GW stocks at NG, but that is a business / economics supply and demand thing that I’d rather not discuss. I’d like to think that eventually, if we buy more stuff, frequency of GW stuff coming in may increase. I am not prohibiting anyone to get their stuff somewhere else (I myself have gotten some from “pasalubongs” on occasions, etc.), but if you can get your toys at NG, please do so. My idea on this is nice and simple. I play in the store, I better get my playthings from the store. There is also this thing called "respect" that goes a long way.
I suggest, while you are waiting for that book / tank / marine / codex from NG to arrive, you may :
1) Put that money you have in something and roll it over to earn some; or
2) Keep that money in your bank account, save for a rainy day (rainy day being the day when the GW stuff arrives)
5) Paint that stuff you got a year ago, damn it.
That concludes it, girls and boys. This is my personal opinion and not that of the whole 101st Galleria Regulars, but some of you may agree with me in whole or in part. This definitely is not a ruling. This is just me on a boring, lazy, rainy day.
Carry on.
P.S. I’ll be away from 40K for the whole of August doing some card flopping. See you in September. Watch out for the Emcee Stag Party 40K mini-tourney, maybe in late October or early November.

HGR Journal Entry No. 065 - 5th Ed Official...
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Kyuzo, Kuneho, Ebon, Pepelu, Deadeye, BattleCaptain, Commissar Alfred with special appearance from John
Other Players Present: Justin
Highlights:
Alfred and Jesse arrive with a 5th Ed rulebook! That pretty much throws 5th Ed games out of the HGR Beta testing. So let the games begin! :D
--------------
Game1 - Pepelu(Tau) vs. Kyuzo(Black Legion)2000pts Secure and Control Gamma (4th Ed Rules)
Pepelu Wins! Kyuzo taps out bottom of 5th
Pepelu's back to his gaming ways due to a sports injury after winning the first HGR mini-tourney. We agreed to play 4th Ed scenarios and rules, with Pepelu's mind still set on the coming GT. In the ensuing game my Chaos got outgunned by Tau and was a difficult uphill climb to come to level terms with them. One CSM squad and my Chaos Lord on bike was able to get into close combat but was not able to cause significant damage to reverse the inevitable defeat. With a termie squad surrounded by plasma toting crisis suits and gun drones and a CSM squad swamped in combat and far from securing any objective, I tap out on the bottom of fifth turn. Good game.
--------------
Game2 - Kuneho(Tyranids) vs. Ebon(Deathguard)2000pts Capture and Control, Spearhead (5th Ed Rules)
Draw!
Two veterans went at it. Not much to report on highlights coz I was playing, but I heard Kuneho had two Hive Tyrants and five(!) Carnifexes on the rampage against the tough Deathguard. Only in the taking of objectives did the carnage end up in a draw.
--------------
Game3 - Commissar Alfred(Armoured Company) vs. Deadeye(Ultramarines)2000pts Capture and Control, Dawn of War (5th Ed Rules)
Deadeye Wins! Ultramarines controlling AC objective.
Frankly, Armoured Company on 5th Ed is at a disadvantage considering all of their Troop slots are tanks which can't score. So Commissar Alfred's options are more to go for the draw or obliterate the enemy entirely. Commissar Alfred seems to be on the right track with his Leman Russ's first shot deviating on Deadeye's Biker Librarian and reducing him to a 215-pt crater. Hehehe... But Ultramarines were able to bounce back slowly taking out tanks and move his squads on Rhinos forward. Ace move would be Ultramarines parking one Rhino an disembarking their tac squad on the AC home objective with the Rhino denying any Armoured Company units from contesting for the win.
--------------
Game4 - Kuneho(Tyranids) vs. BattleCaptain(Luna Wolves)2000pts Seize Ground (5 Counters), Dawn of War (5th Ed Rules)
Draw!
Noteworthy of Luna Wolves reducing Tyranids to 1Carnifex and 1 Zoanthrope. That's six(!) tyranid monsters dead from Luna Wolf shooting and close combat. But the mission was all about objectives and one Luna Wolf squad could've pulled out the win if it were not for the fact that they were not close enough after staying in place for a chance to shoot at the lone Carnifex.
--------------
There might be no gaming this next Saturday to give way to a major card tourney. We all agreed to keep in touch in case we find an alternative venue to play.Gaming ends 8:15pm.

HGR Journal Entry No. 064 - Slow Day For Gaming...
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Deadeye, Kyuzo, Henri, with special appearances from Balian(who was there in spirit), John, Sigismund, and Salubri
Other Players Present: Special appearance from Justin
Highlights:
--------------
Game 1 - Kyuzo(Black Legion) vs. Deadeye(Ultramarines)2000pts Capture and Control, Dawn Of War (5th Ed Beta)
Draw!
Went mechanized Black Legion today, with the debut of two Predators, a Vindicator and Landraider to go along with my four Rhinos. Going mechanized seems better considering the scenarios and vehicle rules. First turn for both sides was pretty much straight forward with the troops from both sides securing their home objectives. In the succeeding turns I decided to go the way of the aggressor and tried to pick off his troops at his home objective and hopefully to contest and try to win it at least.
My Daemon Prince had a little fun, Lashing an Ultramarine Tac Squad from behind their Rhino right out in the open and within range of my Vindicator. Experienced a little guilty pleasure out of that move I must admit. But that guilty pleasure didnt last long. Wanted to go for the win by Lashing the remaining Lascannon squad that's guarding their home objective, only failing by rolling an 11 and getting shot down by Ultramarine fire, which pretty much sealed the Draw after no extended turns were rolled. Good game.
The Chaos list I used:
HQ:
Daemon Prince - Wings, Mark of Slaanesh, Lash of Submission
Elites:
1x5Chaos Terminators - 1xTwin Lightning Claws, 2xCombi-meltas, 2xCombi-flamers, Powerfist, Landraider dedicated transport
Troops:
4x10Chaos Space Marines, 2xMeltaguns, Aspiring Champion with Powerfist, Rhino dedicated tranpsorts with havoc missle launchers
Heavy Support:
2xChaos Predators - Twin-linked lascannons, Heavy bolter sponsons
1xChaos Vindicator
2000pts, 54 models
--------------
Game 2 - Deadeye(Ultramarines) vs. Henri26(Iron Wolves)2000pts Seize Ground(5 Counters), Spearhead (5th Ed Beta)
Henri26 Wins! Iron Wolves-2 Ultramarines-1 Contested-1
--------------
Justin treated us to a Shakey's dinner at end of the day. Thanks man! :DSession ends 9:30pm

HGR Journal Entry No. 063 - Know Thy Store Owner...
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Salubri, Deadeye, Balian, Ebon, Sigismund. Kyuzo was there but did not stay long
Other Players Present: Kuneho for the first time in a long while.
Highlights:
Like I earlier said, I didnt stay long because I had somewhere else to go later in the day. Here's what I gather from the Regulars on what games were played and a few highlights from them as well...
--------------
Game1 Deadeye(Ultramarines) vs. Salubri(Craftworld Megil en Mea)2000pts Capture and Control, Pitched Battle (5th Ed Beta)
Salubri Wins!
--------------
Game2 Balian(Steel Falcons) vs. Ebon(Deathguard)2000pts Annihilation, Spearhead Deployment (5th Ed Beta)
Ebon Wins! Killpoint Score 8-4
--------------
Game3 Sigismund(Salamanders) vs. Kuneho(Tyranids)2000pts Annihilation, Spearhead Deployment (5th Ed Beta)
Game only lasted 3 Turns before closing time got to them with Sigis ahead on killpoints.
--------------
Quotable Quote/Priceless Moment of the Day has to come from Deadeye hands down. Lolz!Freddie: May I borrow this chair?
Deadeye: Uh, no. We already lack chairs.
One of the Regulars: Uhm... Deadeye? That's Freddie. He owns the store. So technically, he OWNS that chair.
Lolz.

HGR Journal Entry No. 062 - Some Continued Gaming...
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Balian, Salubri, Deadeye, John, Kyuzo, Sigismund, Ebon
Other Players Present: Special appearances from Kuneho, Carl(?) and Owen
Only managed a few games today, with an interesting mix of games:
--------------
Game1 - Salubri(Sword Of Light) vs. Balian(Steel Falcons)2000pts Annihilation, Spearhead (5th Ed Beta)
Salubri Wins!
Killpoint Score: 6-2
--------------
Game2 - Deadeye(Ultramarines) vs. John(Hive Fleet Kraken)2000pts Seek and Destroy Alpha
Draw! After 5 Turns
A more detailed battle report care of Deadeye in The Duel blog entry. This was fun to watch (more like overhear while it was my turn to play on the opposite table), having been able to see two brothers go at each other's necks on the gaming table while they could've easily have done this at home. But like what Deadeye said, securing the Draw in Galleria is sweeter compared to being cut to ribbons at home.
--------------
Game3 - Sigismund(Salamanders) vs. Kyuzo(Black Legion)2000pts Seek and Destroy Gamma
Draw!
Sigis still tinkering with a Salamander list while my newly modeled Daemon Prince took the three Defilers for a walk. With sparse terrain and Salamanders with Las Preds, Razorbacks and Dreadnoughts galore, I'd say my army was made for this list. Lolz. Except for the Defilers, majority of my forces was able to reach Salamander battle lines at one flank and tried to overload the rest of my forces there and try to work out a sweep to the opposite flank. But that FOTA sniping Librarian in the far flank was able to pin one squad to slow down my march. That's the second time that Librarian (once as a Blood Raven, now as a Salamander) screwed up my tactics. Will get that Librarian one of these days. Game ends in a draw.
--------------
Game4 - Ebon(Order of the Clenched Fist) vs. Salubri(Sword Of Light)2000pts Seize Ground (5 Terrain Counters), Dawn Of War (5th Ed Beta)
Draw!
Ebon's first stab at 5th Ed. Hehehe...
Ebon's Quotable Quote: "O ha! May Land Raider ako! ..... Syet." - after finding out he's up against Salubri's Eldar. :P
Game ends in a draw with Salubri and Ebon claiming one terrain counter each. Salubri had a chance to win when he zoomed one of his Falcons to contest Ebon's objective, only to realize he landed close to a six-sided die and not the actual terrain counter which was still out of his reach.
--------------
Received word that there might be no gaming tables next Saturday, to give way to a major pre-release tourney. Next gaming session most likely the Saturday after that (July 19).See you guys then.

The Duel!
July 5, 2008
Players: John (Tyranid Kraken) Vs. Mike (Ultramarines)
2000pts Seek and Destroy Alpha (4th Ed) 5 Turns Draw!
Deployment
I opted not to deepstrike my Terminators and Terminator Librarian w/ retinue so I can utilize their firepower to full effect. A Brood lord w/ a six Genestealer retinue infiltrated fairly close to my Rhino.
1st Turn Marines
I moved my Terminators, Dreadnought, Landspeeders, Vindicator and Troops in Rhino to maximize fields of fire. My speeders unpacked a lot of hits on a brood of 20 Gaunts, almost annihilating them. A TAC squad w/ a lascannon finished the job on later turns. Terminators unloaded on Tyranid Warriors to no effect. Another TAC squad managed to wound a Carnifex. A Predator Annihilator did the same with the other Carnifex. Yes there was 2 Carnifex on the table.
Tyranid
The Brood lord w/a retinue and good dice rolls (into difficult terrain/fleet) brought them w/in assault range of my Rhino. Amazingly enough no marine died during the Tyranid shooting phase! But a Landspeeder was damaged losing his assault cannon to Tyranid Warrior fire. Another great miracle was the Brood lord w/ retinue assaulting my Rhino with no effect at all!
2nd Turn Marines
Another move to maximize chances of hitting and bringing all guns to bear! By rolling my Rhino away and disembarking the other, my Terminators and Troops made mince meat of the Brood lord w/ retinue.
Tyranid
A lot of movement/fleet by Gaunts and Hormogaunts that I will later pay for! The earlier wounded Carnifex answered back immobilizing my Predator in the process. Another Carnifex caused the already damaged Speeder to lose its only remaining gun. Then a Tyranid warrior finished the job by destroying the speeder. A brood of Genestealers assaulted my Rhino who earlier survived the same episode but with a different result forcing my troops to disembark from a wrecked Rhino, killing 3 marines. Later being assaulted by 2 Raveners, my Marines put up a valiant defense killing both but also dying in the end. A deep striking Lictor assaulted my Devastator squad w/ the aid of Hormogaunts assaulting from 12” away! Marines being in cover, strike first, but to little effect, resulting in a long drawn out combat which I later lost.
3rd Turn Marines
Another round of moving and shooting a lot of Guns! My Vindicator dropped a Pie plate on a Brood of 10 Hormogaunts, followed by a withering fire from Terminators Assault Cannons and Storm Bolters, while the Dreadnought also contributed, the Hormogaunts being in cover made all the difference from being all but destroyed by 3 Hormogaunts holding on. My Land Speeders and Terminator Librarian w/ retinue was firing and picking apart a brood of Tyranid Warriors and ripper swarms.
Tyranid
Again more movement to cover and fleets made it all but clear that this will all end in a bloody assault in the Tyranids favor! Shooting had little effect on my Power Armored Troops. Another deep striking Lictor almost destroyed my vindicator, causing it to lose all its guns but failing to immobilize it to bring about the Lictor’s demise.
4th Turn Marines
My Vindicator, surviving its close encounter w/ the Lictor, rolled out of the way to expose it to withering bolter fire from nearby marines obliterating it! In an effort to draw the enemy closer to my Lascannon totting TAC squad I was willing to sacrifice my Terminator Librarian and retinue by exposing them to Tyranid fire and possible assault!
Tyranid
My immobile Predator was assaulted by Genestealers causing it to go up in flames taking a couple of assaulters w/ it! As Predicted my Librarian Terminator was assaulted but due to sheer luck they all survived the first round of combat, destroying a Hive Tyrant Guard with a Force Weapon and several Gaunts! Hive Tyrant piled in squarely in front of my Librarian.
5th Turn Duel!
Due to player fatigue and a lack of nourishment (Player has not eaten lunch yet), We decided to pit our respected HQ units in a Duel to decide the winner. Being of the same initiative (In 5!) we hit simultaneously, My Librarian scored several hits but not scoring a wound due to Hive Tyrant’s high Toughness, Hive Tyrant hitting back causing one wound which can only be saved by a Terminators Invul save. Rolling a 6 brought all that carnage to a draw.
Final Tally
Ultramarines
1 Brood of Gaunts
2 Lictors
1 Brood Lord w/ retinue
Tyranid Kraken
1 Tactical Squad
1 Predator
1 Land Speeder
Pretty close but no Dice! A Very Good Game!

HGR Journal Entry No. 061 - A Good Day For HGR...
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Kyuzo, Deadeye, Balian, Sigismund, Henri26, BattleCaptain, Commissar Alfred, Birthday Boy Ebon
Other Players Present: Greenshadow, with special appearances from John, the Other Marty, JR, Mark the Dwarf
Highlights:
--------------
Game1 - Deadeye(Ultramarines) vs. Kyuzo(Black Legion)2000pts Annihilation, Dawn Of War (5th Ed Beta)
Kyuzo Wins!
Killpoints determined the winner with Kyuzo's 4(Terminators, Vindicator, Landraider, Termie Librarian) against Deadeye's 1(CSM Squad). Good game.
--------------
Game2 - Balian(Dark Angels) vs. Sigismund(Salamanders)2000pts Seek and Destroy Omega
Draw!
Sigismund finally able to salvage a draw against his long time mentor's all-infantry Dark Angels.
--------------
Game3 - Henri26(Iron Wolves) vs. BattleCaptain(Luna Wolves)2000pts Cleanse Omega
Henri26 Wins!
Iron Wolves VP in claiming two quarters pretty much made the difference. Lesson learned by the Luna Wolves: never let your Land Raiders straddle two quarters by the end of the game. ;)
--------------
Game4 - Greenshadow(Ravenguard) vs. Commissar Alfred(Armoured Company with Daemonhunter Allies)1750pts Seek and Destroy Omega
Greenshadow Wins via VP!
--------------
Game5 - Deadeye(Ultramarines) vs. Ebon(Order of the Clenched Fist)2000pts Seek and Destroy Gamma
Ebon Wins via VP!
This was a very tactical game with the thick of the fighting pretty much in one critical spot. But the Birthday Boy Ebon will not be denied! Happy birthday Dude! :D
--------------
Game6 - Balian(Dark Angels) vs. BattleCaptain(Luna Wolves)1500pts Seek and Destroy Gamma
Jesse Wins via VP!
Balian and BattleCaptain played a record 1hour and 15minutes including deployment! with BattleCaptain's Land Raiders now wary of meltagun/meltabomb toting Dark Angels, the Luna Wolves were able to edge out on VP's. Good game.
--------------
We decided to pack up and go straight home. Most of the vets got a lot of models to assemble and paint for the next session. Session ends 8:00pmThursday, June 26, 2008
40k Mini Tournament
Six tables...
A whole lot of miniatures...
One champion!!!
The match ups were called after Balian's short opening address (naks!). With the player's at their seats and armies rearing to go, round one kicked of with a bang!
Other interesting things of note was The Meanderer's fateful morale check against shooting that sent his entire Sons of Light Tac squad running off table. Necron's taking a "Draw" from Mike's Ultramarines(perhaps the only one who managed to avoid a loss against the necrons and a newbie at that) which managed a lucky shot against monolith and destroying it early in the game.
Round 2 - The Battle Rages On!
After taking their lunch, the players headed off to round 2 and the match ups became very interesting with some veteran vs veteran action. ( one player was lost in the warp but later found his way back to the mission area. lol )
Shink1m burried the opposition by running out with a 3-0 score on objective. Here's what he has to say about his game with Omegatron:
Kim’s Necrons (Tomb Fleet Vyr) versus Art’s Chaos Space Marines
By Shink1m
The mission required the winner of a roll-off to decide to be an Attacker or a Defender. The Defender will have to set up in the center of the table, deploying only his Troops and Heavy Support. The Attacker, on the other hand, will arrive from his table edge with all his units. At the end of the 6 turns, the player who has the most scoring units within 6” of the center will win.
Looking at Art’s army list, he has nothing there except Troops and Heavy Support. So if he was the Defender, he’d have everything on the table except his HQ. I’d be stuck there with a Monolith, Heavy Destroyers (2) and Warriors (22) – and no Resurrection Orb support. So with that and winning the roll-off, I decided to be the Attacker.
Art’s deployment was impressive – using two Rhinos to shield his Land Raider, and two Havoc units perched on elevated advantage position. I deployed using a weak left flank bait, placing the two Heavy Destroyers with firing position on his Land Raider. I failed in breaking his Land Raider, but the rest of my army succeeded in breaking the two Rhinos, forcing the units inside behind them for cover from the withering Gauss fire. My opponent has been unlucky with getting his winged HQ on the table, rolling several 1’s on his Reserves roll. I concentrated heavy fire on one of the Havoc squads but he managed to pull them back into the safety behind his wrecked Rhinos. Being behind area terrain, Art denied me any LOS to his troops. I assumed he will wait for the final turns before he’ll surge out and assault me, or just wait the storm out and win via objective...[read more about it here]
Round 3
The last game had several players in contention for 1st place but Marty's Tau army eventually took the crown. Read about his Battle reports for all three games [here].

HGR Journal Entry No. 060 - Warhammer 40k 5th Ed Beta...
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Salubri, Henri, Balian, Kyuzo, Deadeye
Other Players Present: Gelo with special appearances from Francis and Owen
Highlights:
Some of the Regulars attempted to playtest 5th Ed rules after having secured an advanced *ahem* copy of the new rulebook (either that or its a very elaborate hoax) and try to see how the new rules play out.
--------------
Game1 - Balian(Dark Angels) vs. Kyuzo(Black Legion)2000pts Seize Ground (5 terrain counters), Spearhead (5th Ed Beta)
Draw!
I decided to start out with my usual Black Legion list (Slaanesh Lord on bike, 2 Termie squads, 3 Rhino squads, 2 Havoc squads and 1 Obliterator squad), on the logic that I don't change anything and see how it plays out in 5th Ed and start experimenting changes to it by next gaming session. Balian's infantry-heavy DA turns out to be more formidable especially with combat squads and what units can claim or contest or claim objectives. The game's got a little bit more dynamic, with some new changes needed in army config and tactics. True Line Of Sight needs a little getting used to, though I don't think it should be a problem. I'd say Balian and I have been generous in terms of True Line Of Sight and cover saves which proved interesting in how to move units about. And, my Terminators were the first to use and fall to the Deep Strike Mishap Table! Haha!
The objective needs a bit of getting used to. Eventhough Balian's forces was reduced to four models, his remaining Dark Angel trooper almost sealed the win if it were not for one of my Chaos Rhinos contesting it for the unlikely draw. Special mention to that particular Rhino that rolled "5's" in the repair roll for three Turns before fixing itself on the fifth Turn to contest the same terrain counter! That was memorable. Lolz.
--------------
Game2 - Salubri(Eldar) vs. Henri(Iron Wolves)2000pts Capture and Control, Dawn of War (5th Ed Beta)
Salubri Wins! Eldar Objective Claimed, Iron Wolves Objective Contested
--------------
Game3 - Kyuzo(Black Legion) vs. Salubri(Eldar)2000pts Annihilation, Spearhead (5th Ed Beta)
Salubri Wins!
Second 5th Ed game, this time against Salubri's Eldar, which my Chaos Marines have yet to beat in 4th Ed and now just as difficult in 5th Ed. With the Mission in mind, I decided to go on the defensive and wait for the Eldar advance and hope to stop it where they decide to hit. Only one of my Havoc squads proved effective in providing cover fire, while the other wasn't as effective having been wrongly deployed and had difficulty in picking out targets via TLOS. Scorpions' and Warp Spiders' hit and run tactics was annoying, enuff said. :P I had no intention of being the first Regular to tap out using 5th Ed rules (Beta or otherwise) and was happy by end of 6th Turn with only three Chaos Space Marine units left on the table against much of the Eldar force intact with only a few immobilized skimmers the only damaged done to them.
--------------
There were still some 4th Ed games played with a special appearance from Gelo aka Badbeef! Here's where the gaming gets funky. :P
--------------
Game4 - Gelo(Daemonhunters/Witchhunters/Space Marine Allies)[Uhm... did I get this right?] vs. Mike(Ultramarines)2000pts Cleanse Alpha
Gelo Wins!

Time flies, and so were a lot of things when we realized Typhoon Frank was posting Signal No.2 (Turned 3 later that night) already. Straight home everybody went, with a lot of new adventures to tell. Session ends 8:45pm.Tuesday, June 17, 2008
Tau takes 1st place for the greater good!
Game 1
Opponent: Luna Wolves
This was my first tournament game in this hobby. I went against Jesse’s pre-heresy marines. Our game lasted for only 4 turns since we were still fooling around while the other tables were already deploying. I guess this was because of us being excited and very eager since it was our first time playing in a tournament. Anyway, our mission was to control table quarters and the map had a forest in the middle with some ruins scattered around the table. The 1st turn had very minimal casualties from both sides. The battle officially started in the 2nd turn when Jesse’s terminators and tac-squads pounded my kroots and my battlesuits. But my battlesuits were able to retaliate by killing some of his termies since they were in rapid fire range from my plasma rifles. All the battlesuits did was get into rapid fire range, give the marines hell, and jump back into safety. The slow advance of the marines and close support of the land-raider caught my battlesuits. I then gave up on this side of the table and focused my tactics on the other half of my hunter cadre which was doing better. My other half of battlesuits and pathfinders on the other side were doing great. XV-8’s were able to kill lots of marines with markerlight support from my pathfinders deployed in a level 3 ruin. The pathfinders had a great vantage point and they were able to “light up” high priority targets. One of the highlights of this game was when a lone heavy weapons marine was marked by the pathfinders, 3 XV-8’s unleashed a variety of ap2/1 weapons on the poor marine and to our surprise, I rolled a lot of 1’s and 2’s thus a lot of my shots missed. 3 low ap shots were on target but this marine made all his 5+ cover saves (what a lucky bastard). My broadsides weren’t that effective in tank hunting in this game, they didn’t have clear LOS on Jesse’s land raider and predator. But on the brighter side, my broadsides took pot shots on the steadily advancing termies thus removing their “scoring unit” status.
Marty's(the guy with the cap) first game match against Jesse. Salubri on the left... and is that Naj's hand grabbing the DA codex? lol
Game 2
Opponent: Dark Angels
Game 3
Opponent: Ultramarines
My last game for this tournament was against my good friend Mike. This is actually our first official game even though we got into the hobby the same time. What made this game fun was all the trash talking (with special participation from john) and fooling around by both players.
Our mission was secure and control 5 loot counters. The table was filled with buildings, bunkers and ruins. I really like this setting since I can use the terrain to my advantage. The buildings and ruins provided my units a lot of cover and hiding places. Mike deployed first and what I did was counter his deployment. Every time he deployed a tank, I deployed a unit with tank busting capabilities. And as for his infantry, I countered them with battlesuits and firewarriors. I was actually surprised with Mike’s tactics because he opted to slug it out with my army. He played a static game in a map filled with lots of potential hiding places for my fire caste. Since he set up a fire base along his deployment edge, I opted to attack aggressively using cover which was readily available to advance. I did not use the classic tau maneuver which was jump, shoot and hide back in the original position. What I did was jump out, shoot and jump again but this time closing in on the marine firebase but still hiding in cover. Mike’s psycher was really annoying because of the FOTA ability. This attack, pinned my broadsides for two turns and the tank hunters weren’t able to anything besides hide in cover. The good thing was my deathrain battlesuits (twin-linked missile pods) were able to step up and destroy 3 tanks and weapon destroyed/immobilize a dreadnaught. My aggressive tactics forced my units to move forward into his firebase and killed enough marines to rend them of their scoring status. The only scoring unit left for the Ultramarines was the pinned tac-squad.
One highlight and game turning event of the game was when a squad of terminators deep-striked near my firewarriors and battlesuits. If these terminators were to assault my units and cause havoc within my lines, Mike would certainly gain the upper hand. The good thing was one f my commanders was near the area and was able to kill 4 terminators all by himself.
Game ended with me controlling 4 loot counters and scoring big in victory points.
Good game!

Draw! 8 Turns!
This was fun. Balian and I were not in tourney tune up mode and tried to play a fast and furious game, as expected from us Regulars. Right off the bat Balian immediately took full advantage of the terrain and my deployment and made me think twice in moving my ML havoc squad to the same flank as my AC/LC havoc squad who's suffered heavy casualties from plasma cannon and missle launcher fire. I decided to let the AC/LC havoc squad suck it up a couple of turns while a bulk of my troops in rhinos come in from Balian's uncovered flank and sweep towards the center while I wait for Balian's Assault squad coming in and exploit any weak flank I might expose.
I rolled up an Obliterator and a Terminator squad on the 3rd Turn so I decided to deepstrike them right into enemy lines. Deviate direction and distance from the two squads almost ended in disaster with the two squads landing right next to each other. Good thing since after whittling down Balian's Veteran squad with combined Obliterator/Terminator shooting, Ezekiel counters with that Hellfire thingy (thanks Salubri for the correction) and actually survive (Balian rolled an S7 AP4! Whew!), but not for long. Game ended after the 8th Turn, with last turn heroics from a melta toting Chaos Marine bringing down the Dark Angel Dreadnought which was enough to salvage a draw.

Mini-tourney next week. Results to come in a week's time.
