Craftworld Megil en Mea "The Sword of Light"

The Sword of Light was one of the few Eldar vessels that escaped the fall largely untouched. The trading vessel with it's then small crew often made runs into the farthest colonies surrounding the outer rim of the Eldar empire. It was by fate that the ship was far from the epicenter of the catastrophe that claimed so many lives.

Even though far away from the anomaly that would later on be referred to as the eye of terror the crew knew instantly of the tragedy that struck their race. They had born witness to the slow descent of eldar society into depravity. With each trip home the crew of The Sword of Light saw what had become of their brethren. Though the seers aboard the ship tried to plead with the leaders of their world their's was ultimately a lost cause. No one would listen.

After the fall the vessel made one last trip home. They had sought to find survivors. What they found was death. Where the once mighty empire of a star spanning race stood... there was only a rift thru time and space. So it was that the ship headed for the rim worlds of the pioneers we have come to call exodites. On their way they found numerous survivors and each ship found either added itself to the fleet or melded the ship to The Sword of Light thru the bone singing prowess of their seers. It was thru this process that the craftworld grew to accomodate the burgeoning population of survivors. The exiles and the last of their kind...

Salubri inspecting his then newly acquired cheddar, I mean Eldar army. :D

The path of the Warrior
The eldar of "The Sword of Light" strongly believe that their continued survival rely heavily on their ability to eliminate threats before they become evident. To achieve this goal the craftworld adopts a more militaristic approach similar to that of the eldar of BielTan. Their interventionist stance also explains why rumors of strikes made by the craftworld all over known space. 1

Howling Banshees

Fire Dragons

Warp Spiders

Shining Spears

Swooping Hawks

Dire Avengers

Escalating Conflict

While the craftworld may employ the honed warriors of the different aspects for surgical strikes a more prolonged or major conflict also sees the presence of civilian volunteers. They come to the field with different roles, from support to frontline troops. Even the youngest of the eldar are trained to fight in the defense of their home and species.

Guardian Defenders

The Living Dead

For the eldar, eternal rest is but a dream for even those that have long since passed away may yet be recalled to life in service of the craftworld. At times of dire need the Spirit Seers will rouse the souls of legendary warriors from sleep. They are then placed within an incredibly resilient wraithbone structure that can house their souls and allow them to move around in the world of the living.

HGR Journal Entry No. 054 - On 40k Gaming, Bitch Slapping Bragging Rights, Freaky Rains, and Billiards...

Date: May 10, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Ebon, Kyuzo, Salubri with Balian in the background and Meanderer was, well, meandering ;)
Other Players Present: Adrian with Jesse watching the games
Highlights:

Only a couple of games were played today, because some came in late, Balian going lone wolf in the MTG tourney scene, and later on finding out Midnight was out with family and Henri down with the flu (get well soon man).

--------------

Game1 Adrian(Chaos Space Marines-Twilight Dawn) vs. Ebon(Chaos Space Marines-Deathguard)
2000pts Cleanse Alpha
Adrian Wins!

--------------

Game2 Salubri(Eldar) vs. Kyuzo(Dark Eldar)
2000pts Recon Omega
Salubri Wins!

This was fun. Salubri and I have been wanting to find out for quite some time now how these two armies would fare head to head. Omega level kinda put me at a slight disadvantage when my Dark Eldar are all on transports while Salubri's Autarch helps in getting his reserves faster. But compared to his current config I had a slight edge on speed while he can hold a line better with shooting compared to delivering my close combat troops using my flimsy transports. I hesitated in zooming all my transports the full distance and tried to shoot at the harlequins moving towards the center, only forgetting they have this Confusion ability to check distance before your can shoot those gaudy garbed gits. That proved my downfall and in true Dark Eldar tradition, hard to recover from. Well, that's one up for the Eldar Craftworlds.

I tried to make a game out of it by moving my remaining Dark Eldar Wyches (the other squad died after their Raider crashed to Ranger sniper fire) and set myself for a showdown against Salubri's Harlequins. Bitch-slap Bragging rights belong to the Dark Eldar Wyches, having taken out a squad of Harlequins in one turn and a squad of Howling Banshees the next. Chalk one up for the Dark Eldar. ;)

I decided to tap out on the bottom of the sixth turn when the Dark Eldar Wyches were shot down by Waveserpent transports and when my Archon failed to consolidate into close combat with the Fire Dragons who incinerated her with fusion gun fire.

Good game.

--------------

We packed up relatively early, and was later joined by Balian after his MTG tourney. 2wins and 4losses is not a bad result. So Salubri, Balian and I went to Metrowalk for some dinner over at Duck Wok when the rains started to pour hard. Freaky weather we're all having. So, I asked them to play a couple of racks of billiards at Elbow Room while we wait for the rains to subside a bit. No sooner have we started, we've gotten a bit competitive and kept score. The games were close, with no one actually dominating. Only on the last three racks was I able to get a groove and end the night on a high note. Final Scores: Balian-4 Kyuzo-7 Salubri-4.

Session ends 9:30pm.

HGR Journal Entry No. 053 - Prey On The Weak...

Date: May 3, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Ebon, Sigismund, Balian, Midnight, Kyuzo with special appearance from Salubri
Other Players Presnt: Marty, Henri, Alfred, Jesse
Highlights:

The boyz resumed gaming hostilities after a couple of weeks off from the Galleria gaming scene. Oh, and a belated Happy Birthday to Jesse(April 29) too!

--------------

Game1 Marty(Tau) vs. Henri(Space Wolves-Iron Wolves)
2000pts Recon Gamma
Henri Wins!

Saw the closing Turns of this game, with Henri edging out on Victory Points.

--------------

Game2 Ebon(Space Marines-Dark Angels) vs. Sigis(Space Marines-Blood Ravens)
1750pts Cleanse Alpha
Ebon Wins!

Sigismund turned turtle on this game, with Blood Ravens staying within their home quarter for three turns before cautiously venturing out with his Terminators and Bikers on the table edges. Ebon took his time picking off Blood Ravens through systematic shooting before committing his Assault Squads into close combat when Blood Raven Bikers and Terminators got too close.

Game ends with Ebon claiming three quarters to Sigismund's one.

--------------

Game3 Midnight(Space Wolves) vs. Alfred(IG with Daemonhunter Allies)
2000pts Secure and Control Gamma 4 Control Points
Midnight Wins!

This was a good one. Alfred's Imperial Guard is getting better with their tank tactics, providing solid defense and scary shooting. Space Wolves were also methodic in their approach to get into close combat with meltabombs and landspeeders. Alfred taps out on the 5th Turn for Midnight to secure the win.

--------------

Game4 Kyuzo(Dark Eldar) vs. Jesse(Space Marines-Luna Wolves)
2000pts Recon Omega
Kyuzo Wins!

Game took 9 Turns! Luna Wolves and Dark Eldar went the distance on this one.

Dark Eldar had nothing on the table to start out the turn. Their only saving grace was when on the second, practically EVERYONE came in except for one Raider with Wyches! Dark Eldar went to concentrate on a speedy advance to one flank, preying on two Dev squads an one Dreadnought while the Luna Wolf Terminators and Land Raiders have not yet arrived. Luna Wolf Veteran Squads followed by a Librarian with Terminator retinue tried to control the center, only to be attacked by Wyches and Archon with Incubi hiding behind the hill.

Of note among the Luna Wolves is the Veteran Squad's Rhino tank shocking raiders and troops on the later turns, even chasing off a squad of Reaver Jetbikers in the process. Extended game length went the full distance of nine turns with the Luna Wolves' Assault Terminators touching down against The Kabal's Wych Squad, two Raider Squads, and a Ravager.

Good game.

--------------

Some note-worthy episodes and sightings outside the gaming tables. Here's to list a few:

Balian's Bad Mojo moment...
Mom/Ate in Pink!
And who would forget the History 7 Girl!

Salubri, Balian and Kyuzo then proceeded to have dinner at Quattro... for a change. Dinner took a little longer, capping off the night with a cocktail advertisement that we just had to ask the waiter for copy and show you how much that capped off our evening. :D

Session ends 10pm-ish.

HGR Journal Entry No. 052 - Return To Midnight's Lair...

Date: April 26, 2008
Venue: Midnight's Place
Regulars Present: Midnight, Salubri, Shink1m, Balian, Kyuzo
Other Players Present: Henri
Highlights:

Not much in terms of game highlights for me today, since I came in a little late to catch up on some gaming over at Midnight's. Here's the results of the games that day:

--------------

Game1 Salubri(Eldar, Sword of Light) vs. Shink1m(Necrons, Tomb Fleet Vyr)
2000pts Secure and Control Alpha (Four Counters)
Shink1m Wins!

Got details of this from Shink1m: Eldar was able to claim one counter using his Fire Prism while Tomb Fleet Vyr claimed two counters on the other flank.

Kim has put up a new blog for his Tomb Fleet Vyr. Check it out as well as his commentary on the battle here.

--------------

Game2 Henri(Space Wolves) vs. Balian(13th Company)
2000pts Secure and Control Omega
Balian Wins via VP!

--------------

Game3 Midnight(Eldar, Sword of Light) vs. Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines, Black Legion)
2000pts Take and Hold Omega
Midnight Wins via Massacre!

A comedy of errors for me on this one, with not much room to recover. Crucial for me here would be the my Chaos Sorcerer on bike failing his psychic test (rolled an 11) to fire Wind of Chaos on his Howling Banshees and Waveserpent. Howling Banshees got to countercharge and in the later turns cut the Sorcerer down despite rolling 6's to wound. Second would be my Chaos Lord on bike rolling a 1 on his Daemon Weapon attacks and eventually die on a sweeping advance by the Warpspiders and Autarch. Served some payback on the Autarch with a Powerfist from one of the CSM squads, only to be given the Eldar Rain of Death treatment with practically everything with fusion guns to finish. Shooting with fusion guns first would've been enough, so I guess Midnight was trying to prove a point. :P

Midnight here - this was a great army list (and my thanks to Salubri) against kyuzo's chaos. agree with kyuzo on comedy of errors and i'm sure i made more than him. i just got lucky with the rolls - them banshees really should have been dead 2nd turn pa lang. swooping parrots, warp spiders were fun (surprisingly) to use. the 2 wraithlords both passing their wraithsight checks the whole game! sorry to kyuzo, minsan lang ako maka-massacre :)

--------------

We finished relatively early but were a little tired for the usual poker games after 40k gaming. Dropped Midnight off at the nearby MRT station and the rest went to Quattro for dinner. For a change. ;)

Session ends 9pm-ish.

HGR Journal Entry No. 051 - Quotable Quotes Too Many To Mention...

Date: April 12, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Balian, Salubri, Sigismund, Ebon, Kyuzo, with special appearance from Meanderer (who brought along Rose) and Midnight (who brought along Ana Marie)
Other Players Present: Marty, Henri, Adrian (who brought along Christian), Jesse, Alfred, with special appearance from Owen and JP
Highlights:

--------------

Game1 - Balian(Dark Angels) vs. Marty(Tau)
2000pts Secure and Control Omega (4 counters)
Marty Taps out on 6th Turn. Balian Wins!

--------------

Game2 - Salubri(Eldar) vs. Henri(Space Wolves)
2000pts Recon Alpha
Salubri Wins!

I arrived to see this game in its middle turns. Salubri's Aspect Warriors are proving to be a real handful for the Space Wolves, and ominously for a lot of players in future games. But the Space Wolves were able to hold their own against the Eldar, especially when things got into close combat. In the end, it was a scoring unit of Firedragons, Swooping Hawks and Fire Prism touching down on the Space Wolf deployment zone to secure the win.

--------------

Game3 - Alfred(Imperial Guard with Daemonhunter allies) vs. Sigismund(Chaos Space Marines)
2000pts Secure and Control Omega (5 counters)
Draw!

Sigis fails his Leadership test and didn't go up against the Baneblade and settles for IG with Grey Knights. Alfred showed some marked improvement in his tank tactics and shooting, which proved a problem for Sigis's Berserkers who, alongside his Daemon Prince (with chicken wings) stayed behind cover for a couple of turns before deciding to move, and in the roundabout route at that. The game resulted in a draw despite Sigis being able to control 2 counters to Alfred's 1.

--------------

Game4 - Ebon(Order of the Clenched Fist) vs. Adrian(Azure Dawn)
1500pts Take and Hold Gamma
Adrian Wins!

This looked like a test of patience from both players as Adrian's (9)Landspeeders hid behind two hills for half the game and was content to have his two Librarians use Fury Of The Ancients from behind that same hill formation while Ebon's forces tried to weather the shooting from the far corner.

--------------

Game5 - Marty(Tau) vs. Jesse(Luna Wolves)
2000pts Seek and Destroy Gamma
Draw!

It's been observed that Marty's shooting tactics are starting look scary and living up to the Tau's billing as advertised and had a distinct advantage over the Luna Wolves in the early turns. It only took two Luna Wolves Terminators to reach and wreak havoc on the Tau battle line to even out the game and pull out a hard fought draw. Good game.

--------------

A Game6 would've been counted between Salubri's Eldar and Kyuzo's Chaos Space Marines but closing time beckons and only two turns were played with no clear advantage held by either side. Well, there's always next week.

A lot of Quotable Quotes were heard that day. Mental note to self to be more active in writing things down. Balian and I were pretty much content in watching and heckling at Sigis when we finish our games or when we wait out our turn to play.

Gaming ends 9:00-ish.

HGR Journal Entry No. 050 - After A Long Drought...

Date: April 5, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Balian, Ebon, Kyuzo, Salubri, with special appearance from Midnight da Heckler and Sigis da Rouge Trader.
Other Players Present: John, Henri, Jesse, Mike, with special appearance from Alfred, Adrian, and Ike.
Highlights:

The Regulars are back to our playing ways after two weekends of no games at Galleria. That's close to three weeks of pent up gaming energy just waiting to... self-destruct. Lolz.

--------------

Game1 - John(Ultramarines) vs. Ebon(Order of the Clenched Fist)
1500pts Secure and Control Alpha
John taps out on Turn 3. Ebon Wins!

The brothers Mike and John changing armies today, this time John playing his brother's Ultramarines. Guess the tide turned when John's Assault Squad decided to assault two of Ebon's squads with powerfists. ;)

--------------

Game2 - Balian(Ravenwing) vs. Henri(Space Wolves)
2000pts Cleanse Alpha
Balian Wins! 1 Quarter against 2 Contested

Balian almost regretted giving up first turn after a dismal round of shooting. But using Ravenwing's speed, Balian was able to secure one quarter and contest the others, including the Space Wolf home quarter.

--------------

Game3 - Jesse(Luna Wolves) vs. Salubri(Deathwing)
1500pts Seek and Destroy Alpha
Jesse Wins! 1 Scoring Unit remaining vs. None

--------------

Game4 - Kyuzo(Dark Eldar) vs. Mike(Ultramarines)
1500pts Cleanse Gamma
Kyuzo Wins! Massacre to the last man on Turn4.

Mike takes out the Commander from John's earlier list for a better tooled up Librarian. Dark Eldar shooting focused more on the Devastator Squad and Assault Squad forcing both units to fail morale and leave the table. Landraider shooting almost singlehandedly took out two raider transports and a ravager before blowing up to dark lance fire.

--------------

Game5 - Balian(Dark Angels) vs. Jesse(Luna Wolves)
1500pts Seek and Destroy Gamma
Draw!

Critical last turn heroics by the meltagun carrying veteran blowing up the remaining Luna Wolves Landraider more than 6 inches away to tie things up.

--------------

Quotable Quotes:

Salubri: "Balian, have a cheese-filled pandesal."
Balian: "Thanks, I'm good."
Kyuzo: "Apparently, Balian's got enough cheese laid out on the table."

Salubri: "Sampung Terminators! Anong nagawa sa isang Landraider? WALAAA!!!"

John: "Kaya nga nandyan yung Commander in the first place." - Right after Mike's Assault squad left the table after failing morale to Dark Eldar shooting.

Session ends 7:30pm-ish

HGR Journal Entry No. 049 - Slow Saturday...

Date: March 15, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Balian, Kyuzo, Ebon, with a no show from Sigismund, who backed out last minute
Other Players Present: Mike, Henri, with special appearance from John
Highlights:

A few Regulars were absent today, as well as most of the new players due to exams and prior commitments. But despite that, we were able to log in a few games, as well as enjoying the scene and being seen.

--------------

Game1 - Mike(Tyranids) vs. Balian(Dark Angels)
2000pts Take and Hold Gamma
Balian Wins!

This was a tiring 4-hour conflict with the Ezekiel-led Dark Angels standing ground against the steady advance of the Tyranid horde. In the end it was good target prioritizing and insane plasma firepower (some Dark Angels took one for the Brotherhood to keep the Tyranid horde at bay) that kept the Dark Angels on top.

--------------

Game2 - Henri(Space Wolves) vs. Kyuzo(Dark Eldar)
2000pts Recon Alpha
Kyuzo Wins! 3-0

Decided to go all raiders and ravagers (well... along with my usual Wyches and Archon-led Incubi on the side). Had to make full use of the Dark Eldar's mobility and hope to take out the Space Wolves' tanks before they return the hurt exponentially. The wyches were not as effective as I would've wanted against Blood Claws having missed a lot of hit rolls and did only a few wounds, and losing a few rounds of combat as well. Game ends with two Ravagers and a Wych squad touching down on the Space Wolf deployment zone versus none for the Space Wolves.

--------------

Game3 - Ebon(Order of the Clenched Fist) vs. Henri(Space Wolves)
2000pts Take and Hold Alpha
Henri taps out on the 5th Turn. Ebon Wins!

Balian and I watched part of this game. The Space Wolf Vidicator was pretty much take out of it when it was immobilized not facing the thick of the battle. The Order methodically took out Space Wolf units while slowly inching their way towards the center. Henri's taps out at the end of the 5th turn, after assessing his Space Wolves cannot match the Order's scoring units already entrenching themselves at the center.

--------------

Balian and I were both tired after playing long games, but a real good kind of tired. So we packed up and went home. Gaming ended relatively early at 7:30pm.

Quotable Quotes for the Day:

"The eye contact was there! At least I still have my mojo! Buti na lang may testigo ako!" - Balian. Enuff said.

HGR Journal Entry No. 048 - Expanding The Secret Vocabulary...

Might as well post it now while I can't do my 15-min-painting-and-3-hour-admire technique. ;)

Date: March 8, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria, near Victory and Skybowl, in a corner table among the card players
Regulars Present: Balian, Sigismund, Ebon, Salubri, Kyuzo, special appearance by Midnight
Other Players Present: Henry, John, special appearance by Mike
Highlights:

--------------

Game1 - Balian(Steel Falcons) vs. Sigismund(Black Templars)
2000pts Cleanse Omega
Balian Wins via VP! 7 turns

--------------

Game2 - Ebon(Order of the Clenched Fist) vs. Salubri(Deathwing)
2000pts Recon Omega
Salubri Wins via VP!

Gwen was adorable! We were a bit distracted in keeping her preoccupied so she doesn't distract Daddy Ebon while up against Salubri. Heard the momentum swung back and forth but in the end it was the Deathwing that prevailed.

--------------

Game3 - Henry(Space Wolves) vs. John(Tyranids)
1500pts Cleanse Omega
John Wins via VP!

--------------

Game4 - Kyuzo(Dark Eldar) vs. Balian(Steel Falcons)
2000pts Take and Hold Gamma
Balian Wins!

Brought my Dark Eldar again, this time taking another crack at the Steel Falcon light show. Dark lances were able to score some great hits against a lot of the Razorbacks and one of the Dreadnoughts in the earlier rounds. But there were still a lot more lascannons left on the table to methodically take out Dark Eldar raiders at will. Game ends with only the Wyches the only scoring units left for the Dark Eldar against a lot more mobile units left for the Steel Falcons to take the center.

--------------

The Regulars decided to pack up early when it seemed not sufficient to run a fifth and sixth game with the time left.

Made a quick analysis of man's complex mating rituals ensued when Balian, Salubri and Kyuzo decided to send a couple of hours for dinner and coffee at Quattro and Starbucks respectively. Despite the road repair, Starbucks was packed. A good way to end the day.

Some Quotable Quotes:

Kyuzo - "Too many lights!"
Salubri - "Syempre, Steel Falcons yan eh!"

*Bang bang bang!* "This is taking too long! Charge! Grrraaarrrggghhh!!!" - Henry's Space Wolves when they faced Tyranids for the first time. They will be missed. ;)

Some noteworthy additions to the Secret Vocabulary were made as well. What can I say, we were on a roll:

"Bleh" - pertaining to something that's not exactly what it seemed
"Poosshhiinngg" - as previously explained and just realized Balian was serious when he just figured out what it meant after hearing it
"Keblag" - pertaining to something distractingly bouncing, but in a good way. Hehehe...
"Wwwhhhaaah" - pertaining to a Keblag, but in a bad way
"Wwhhachacha" - the arrival of something really REALLY wrong! Wahahaha!!!

Session ends 9:30-ish

Saturday, March 01, 2008

HGR Journal Entry No. 047 - Pooossshhhiiinnnggg!!! Lolz...

Date: March 1, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Sigismund, Kyuzo, Salubri, Ebon, Meanderer
Other Players Present: Mike, Jesse, Henry
Highlights:

--------------

Game1 Sigismund(World Eaters) vs. Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines)
2000pts Secure and Control Gamma (4 Counters)
Kyuzo Wins via Massacre!

I decided to take the Defilers out for a walk... Hehehe

I thought the best way to take on Sigis's World Eaters was to rush my Rhinos and bikes and hope to charge the berserker line (he had three 15-man squads of those bloodthirsty mofo's) and have the Defilers provide battle cannon cover. Two Slaaneshi Lords on bikes carrying Blissgivers were there to tie up his Havocs and prevent any problems they might pose to my Defilers. My bikers were only able to halt two berserker squads for only a few turns before dying against sheer numbers. The third Berserker squad proved to be real scary on the charge even at half strength, being able to kill off my termie squad in just one round of combat.

Kharn the Betrayer had a chance to prove his worth when he singlehandedly destroyed one Chaos Rhino full of Chaos Space Marines (Plasma pistol at the back of the Rhino, but suffered a wound in the explosion) and killed 7 CSM on the charge in the next Turn). Ironically, it took one CSM to cause two wounds and Kharn rolling two 2's in his armor save roll that did him in (I fondly described that episode where that CSM drove his chainsword up Kharn where the sun don't shine and flipped the chainsword switch on HIGH. *Wwwhhhiiirrr!!!*). Lolz.

Game ends with Chaos claiming three counters and the World Eaters wiped out to the last man.

--------------

Game2 Ebon(Order of the Clenched Fist-Space Marines) vs. Salubri(Deathwing)
2000pts Cleanse Alpha
Ebon Wins!

--------------

Game3 Ebon(Order of the Clenched Fist-Space Marines) vs. Jesse(Luna Wolves-Space Marines)
1500pts Cleanse Gamma
Joel Wins!

--------------

Game4 Sigismund(World Eaters) vs. Salubri(Deathwing)
2000pts Recon Alpha
Salubri Wins!

I tried to help out Sigismund on some finer points in deployment and see how he can maxmimize the effectivity of his World Eaters. Despite that, some of his units sadly sat back and waited for the Terminators to come to him, which whittled down the Berserkers numbers as they advanced.

Game ends with the Deathwing scoring three touchdown units in the World Eater deployment zone versus the World Eaters one.

--------------

Game5 Salubri(Deathwing) vs. Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines)
2000pts Take and Hold Alpha
Kyuzo taps out on the Sixth Turn. Salubri Wins!

I'm pretty much in a pickle here, since Defiler battle cannons could do only so much against Terminator armor. I tried to take out the Ravenwing bikers out, but not in time before they were able to homer in a lot of Terminators on to the objective. It was tough to wrench the Terminators' strangle hold of the center.

Game ends with 3 Terminator units at the center to Chaos's none, with a Quotable Quote Moment allowed in the last turn. Good game.

--------------

Game6 Henry(Space Wolves) vs. Jesse(Luna Wolves-Space Marines)
1500pts Seek and Destroy Alpha
Jesse Wins!

Battle of the Wolves. Cool.

Got to consult the rulebook post-game to check that in a Seek and Destroy Alpha mission, its the most number of scoring units left after the game that determines the winner. Jesse's Luna Wolves win over Henry's Space Wolves 3 scoring units to 2.

--------------

Salubri, Meanderer, Kyuzo, Henry, Sigismund, and Jesse met up with Midnight at Quattro for some dinner and talk shop. Midnight's Saturdays were pretty much booked after taking up post-graduate studies, so it was good for the new players to meet up with him and maybe get a chance to go up against him in the coming games. Salubri and I got to congratulate Meanderer who now has a girlfriend a couple of days back. Heard he won her over with this handsome personality. Guess some of you will be able to figure that out.

We shared a few war stories and had a laugh. Who would forget Kyuzo's daemonettes (didn't realize those chicks made a considerable impression against the Regulars), Meanderer's patented oven tactics (flank the target with Rhinos then flush the corridor with LOTS of flamers), Salubri's "Sniper Vindicators", and Sigismund's Monoliths (I won't, with a sick note. Joke. :P). The Quattro scene had its share of excitement, as implied by how this Entry's title was coined. We could just imagine Balian would want to share our misery after seeing a Roxanne Ginoo in a promo girl outfit. Too bad Balian was in Sector KPH on boyfriend duties, who will most likely be back next gaming session with a vengeance.

Some Quotable Quotes:

"Thunderclaw!!!" - Luna Wolves with drawings of Thunderhammers on their Lightning Claws. Hmmm... so their claws can stun tank crews too? Haha.

" "(Jazz) - You wanna piece of me?
(Megatron) - No, I want you in pieces!"

Oops, that's Megatron" - Salubri promptly changes dice so as not to jinx his attack roll against a Defiler

Session ends 10:00PM

HGR Journal Entry No. 046 - Taking Of The Tower...

Date: February 23, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria
Regulars Present: Balian, Sigismund, Kyuzo, Salubri, Ebon, Shink1m
Other Players Present: Adrian, Henry, Marty, Jessie, Alfred, Kei
Highlights:

We got a few more good games in today, with the Regulars giving the new players a wide range of what's out there in the depths of the Imperium...

--------------

Game1 - Balian(13th Company) vs. Sigismund(World Eaters)
2000pts Take and Hold Omega
Balian Wins!

I heard this game got ugly with both sides getting into close combat early. It was a gruelling 8 Turns of multiple attacks from the 13th Company against the World Eaters' numbers. In the end, it was the ferocity of the 13th Company who won out.

--------------

Game2 - Adrian(Azure Dawn - Space Marines) vs. Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines)
1500pts Recon Omega
Draw!

Adrian came with his fun list. Well, if you call facing 8(!) Tornados, 2 Drop Pods including 1 Seige Dreadnaught(!) fun. Variable ended game length ended in 7 Turns, with the Azure Dawn having a Tornado squadron and the Commander and Termies touching down compared to the Termies and Noise Marine squad in the enemy deployment zone for Chaos.

Some post-game lessons learned:

1) You can't deepstrike the Commander and Termies as one unit, unless the Termies are part of his retinue (Hang on, are the Termies the Commander's retinue? If so, they shouldn't double up in the recon score, correct?)

Balian - a commader in terminator armour can teleport with a squad of terminators... for VP purposes though, only double-up on the squad. Exclude the points of the commander, even if he joined the terminator squad. The case may be different if the termie squad is a command squad of the commander (depends on what codex you are using).

2) When shooting at a squadron, allocate hits to the members of the squadron, then resolve the armor penetration scores per model in the squadron.

--------------

Game3 - Salubri(Death Ravens) vs. Marty(Tau)
2000pts Take and Hold Gamma
Marty taps out on the 5th Turn. Salubri Wins!

Heard Marty's starting to get the hang of what his Tau units can do and maximize the amount of shooting they can dish out. It was only the steady advance of the hard hitting Deathwing that did him in.

--------------

Game4 - Ebon(Deathguard) vs. Henry(Space Wolves)
2000pts Seek and Destroy Gamma
Ebon Wins!

I think its the second time Henry has faced the children of Nurgle. Ebon duly responds with a few alterations to his list, including a special appearance of Typhus, Herald of Nurgle. Typhus with Wind of Chaos + 1 Space Wolves squad just disembarked from a Rhino = Lots of dead Space Wolves. Typhus rocks!!!

--------------

Game5 - Shink1m(Tomb Fleet Vyr - Necrons) vs. Jessie(Luna Wolves)
1500pts Take and Hold Omega
Shink1m Wins!

Shink1m coming to play in Galleria after a long stint from the 40k scene. Welcome back Tomb Fleet Vyr! Third time this particular table rolled the Take and Hold mission. This time, Tomb Fleet Vyr comes in with a Monolith to give the Imperium something to think about.

Lesson Learned: Space Marines shouldn't consult the Imperial Archives regarding Necrons WHILE in the thick of the fighting. Hehehe...

--------------

Game6 - Balian(13th Company) vs. Alfred(Armored Company)
2000pts Recon Omega
Balian Wins!

What high armor and heavy firepower the Armored Company had in spades, the 13th Company made up for in mobility. Commissar Alfred still continues to impress the Regulars with gutsy (bordering on mad) Baneblade shooting. Game ends with two Touchdown Units for the 13th Company with the Baneblade still intact but reduced to half movement. 13th Company edges out on VP.

A lesson was learned in fire discipline

--------------

Game7 - Marty(Tau) vs. Adrian(Azure Dawn - Space Marines)
1500pts Recon Gamma
Adrian Wins!

Wasn't able to see much of this game, hearing it had to end a little short at the start of the 4th Turn, with Adrian winning out with drop pods literally dropping into the the Tau Empire's deployment zone with the dreadnaughts and tornados dishing out a lot of hurt.

--------------

Seven games on two tables in a little under 8 hours. I'd say that's not a bad piece of game management and scheduling. Pats on the back all around. Hehehe... Game session ends 8:30-ish.

Some Quotable Quotes:

Adrian: "So, what do you think of the Siege Dreadnaught?"
Kyuzo: "Hmmm... didn't it blow up the turn right after it arrived? Guess we'll never know what it can really do now, won't we?" ;)

"Nakaka-guilty ang Wind of Chaos!" - Ebon after wiping out a full Space Wolves squad

"When you think you can't, then you lost out right that very instant."

HGR Journal Entry No. 045 - Holy Bolters! Argh...

Date: February 16, 2008
Venue: Robinson's Galleria, 3rd Floor
Regulars Present: Kyuzo, Ebon, Balian, Sigismund, Salubri
Other Players Present: Henry, Mike, John, Jaime
Highlights:

Change in scenery yet again. Kinda like going on a Galleria demo tour. Haha. But once we got tables set up, we were quick into the carnage, HGR style.

--------------

Game1 - Balian(13th Company) vs. Kyuzo(Dark Eldar)
2000pts Cleanse Alpha
Kyuzo taps out bottom of 4th. Balian Wins!

Lucky me to decide taking out the Dark Eldar army right up against Balian's 13th Company. Most of my raider transports carrying wyches and Archon got shot down by the second turn, but they were effective against 13th Company units that ever got into close combat. By 4th Turn, a quick assessment of the table sees me with not enough scoring units to prevent the 13th Company sweeping in to claim quarters.

Good game.

--------------

Game2 - Ebon(Deathguard) vs. Sigismund(Orks)
2000pts Take and Hold Omega
Ebon Wins via VP!

Ebon's Deathguard takes Rite of Passage against Sigismund's Orks for 4 hours. Noteable is the amount of carnage that has ensued in those 4 hours, with the Green Tide still pouring it on in the latter rounds. Could we say a tired Ebon swinging an imaginary scythe is Quotable? Lolz...

Balian - to illustrate how long this game was... me and kyuzo started our game at the same time, we packed-up after, watched henry and salubri deploy, had lunch, went back, and salubri and henry finished their game same time this game concluded. Whew!

--------------

Game3 - Salubri(Deathwing) vs. Henry(Space Wolves)
2000pts Seek and Destroy Alpha
Salubri Wins!

Salubri comes to Galleria with an all Deathwing Terminator army! No Landraiders, no Ravenwing, just all-Terminators! The Deathwing's steady advance proved to be a little difficult for the Space Wolves to handle. Game ends with Salubri having 2 scoring units remaining to Henry's 1.

--------------

Game4 - Ebon(Deathguard) vs. Henry(Space Wolves)
2000pts Cleanse Gamma
Ebon Wins via Massacre!

Not much highlights from me on this game, it was simultaneous with my game against Mike.

Balian - what I saw were meltaguns, about 6 inches away from landraiders...

Ouch...

--------------

Game5 - Mike(Ultramarines) vs. Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines)
1000pts Recon Gamma
Mike Wins via VP!

Had my hands full on this one. With the config I pulled out, it was difficult to recover unit losses. Took a big gamble in turbo-boosting my Sorcerer Biker in front of one Tactical Squad na one Scout Squad, taking one wound from a bolter first before finally getting killed by one single Scout missle. To compound my problems, a second gamble in deep striking terminators without the aid of teleport homers proved to be their undoing when they deviated into an enemy squad. That's 1/3 my army in just two turns!

Chaos Space Marines proved to be real nasty in close combat compared to their Loyalist counterparts as they methodically took out three tactical squads in three full turns. Game ended with victory points in the Ultramarines favor, the points difference would've been a bit more respectable if only my remaining CSM squad was able to reach the enemy deployment zone. Just one turn short.

Good game.

Balian - this game reinforced my trust in bolters... and showed all of us an alternative (and effective!) way of rolling dice :D Mike also showed us how Space Marines should fight!

--------------

Gaming ends 8:00pm.

Quotable Quotes of the Day:

"Uh Ryan, I think it feels like its FIVE against one..." +P

"Orks were literally stopping in mid-swing to drop their choppas for a second to check out their codex if they're doing it right..." Wahahaha!!!

Salubri - "Super Mom!!!"
Balian - "What? Where? Oh thaaaaat.... Super Mom nga!"
Kyuzo - "Super Mom?! Where? Wwwaaahhh!!!"

Friday 1K

Romy braved the rally in Makati to trudge to Fortress at Greenhills VMall to face off against Kim, who was trying to dust off his Necrons with more regular Friday games.

Coming from more frequent WM gaming, the long hours of six turns was a culture shock to me. The basic rules were still familiar, but there were some things that I needed to get used to.

I was witness to a mathematical anomaly though, in the form of a lone Khorne Terminator in the midst of my Necron Warriors who survived from the early rounds and which proved to be the downfall of my army. It was one of those times where I wished I had this or that, specifically the Veil or a Monolith. Close combat was never a forte of Necron Warriors, having no sergeant with a Powerfist. Close combat against a melee-strong Khorne Terminator WITH a Powerfist wreaking havoc in the ranks of my Warriors, now that's just plain sad.

Romy's gamble paid off big time though, successfully deep striking his Terminators in my deployment zone after I had brought down his bike-riding Sorcerer (Warriors did this, Heavy Destroyers just flashed their guns to look good). I hope I will have the same luck in future games, as Necrons do have knack in teleporting stuff on the table, too.

HGR Journal Entry No. 044 - Games Gone The Distance...

Date: February 9, 2008
Venue: Robinson's Galleria That Basement 1 Atrium Place
Regulars Present: Kyuzo, Balian, Sigismund, Salubri, Ebon
New Players Present: Marty, Henry, Mike, Ike, Yano, John
Rules of Engagement: Warhammer 40k
Highlights:

--------------

Game1 - Balian(Steel Falcons) vs. Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines)
2000pts Secure and Control Alpha (5 counters)
Balian Wins! (Balian claims 3 counters with 1 contested against none claimed by Kyuzo)

I had to be aggressive on this one, or the Steel Falcon light show will punish you in the middle rounds if you're caught out in the open. "Word In Your Ear" screwed up my Havoc squad position and subsequently fail in guarding the flank where the Predators and Landspeeders advanced. On the other flank, I was lucky in Deep Striking the Khorne Terminator squad right behind enemy lines and kill off a couple of Steel Falcons as well as the Inquistor Lord. Daemon Prince got to take out the Scout squad, the (pesky) Calidus Assassin and Librarian. Balian in typical fashion zoomed out his Landspeeders on the last turn (really my fault in not eliminating that threat) to claim three points, contesting one and doing nothing else but do the HBK pose and say, "I'm done". +P

Good game.

--------------

Game2 - Sigismund(Blood Ravens) vs. Salubri(Deathwing)
2000pts Recon Gamma
Salubri Wins via VP!

--------------

Game3 - Henry(Space Wolves) vs. Marty(Tau)
1500pts Seek and Destroy Gamma
Draw!

It's been a hard fought game between two players playing their first game. In the end it was a hard fought draw with a couple of lessons for both players to carry into their next games.

--------------

Game4 - Ebon(Death Guard) vs. Salubri(Deathwing)
2000pts Cleanse Alpha
Joel Wins!

This was the proverbial "fun game went serious" between Ebon and Salubri who just realized they haven't played against each other in a little over two years now. Deathwing Landraiders' misfortunes continued for being immobilized in the early turns. Deathguard advance was hard to stop, winning out over the Deathwing's brave stand.

--------------

Game5 - Balian(Dark Angels) vs. Ike(The Azure Blades - Space Marines)
1500pts Secure and Control Alpha (4 counters)
Balian Wins! (Balian claims 3 counters against Ike's 1)

Whoa. Balian's got TWO armies in the bag?! Balian brought Ike to school with an all-infantry Dark Angel army. Game went through the whole stretch with Balian doing a second HBK move for the day.

--------------

Game6 - Sigismund(Blood Ravens) vs. Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines)
2000pts Cleanse Omega
Kyuzo Wins via VP!

Some payback against the Blood Ravens, who deployed their initial troops out a little thin. Thin enough to be picked out one by one by the Chaos Space Marines. Game ended with a titanic showdown with the Chaos Sorcerer Killing the Blood Raven Commander with this force weapon and dying by the Perils of the Warp with its death blow. Blood Ravens had only the Terminators on the table against close to half of the forces of Chaos.

--------------

Other new players of note. John's currently working on a Tyranid army (Maybe about 1/4 the way. Ouch.) and his brother Mike just showed his drop pod from plasticard (Maybe he can make LOT more for the others too. :D).

Some Quotable Quotes:

"Independent Characters can't score."

"Somebody's lost his bearings." - Balian's comment after picking up a ball bearing out of nowhere.

Army Roster

I'm updating the army rosters on the sidebar. Each of those armies will have a page of it's own. For several players who own the same kind of army... they will be sharing the page. In view of this can I ask you guys to please send me pictures of your painted units? Send only the ones that are fully painted. Also I need a write up from you guys... about the army... what got you started, what you like about it, etc etc. Oh and I also need a picture of you that I can use as a player portrait pic of sorts. kahit maliit lang.

The write up can be in tag-lish if you like. This blog is mostly for pinoys anyway. :D

HGR Journal Entry No. 043 - Apocalypse Cometh...

Date: February 2, 2008
Venue: Robinsons Galleria atrium-like thingy
Regulars Present: Balian, Sigismund, Salubri, Ebon, Kyuzo
Other Players Present: Naj, Adrian, Jessie, Alfred
Other Friends Who Passed By: Justin, Owen
Rules of Engagement: Warhammer 40k
Highlights:

Strong attendance today, with two 4x6 tables giving some new players a chance to get some 40k gaming, HGR style.

--------------

Game1 - Balian(Steel Falcons) vs. Adrian(Twilight Dawn - Chaos Space Marines)
2000pts Seek and Destroy Gamma
Adrian taps out on Turn5. Balian Wins!

Balian's becoming the resident submissions specialist. Adrian's Daemon Princess made a slight mistake of showing up in the open, right into the Steel Falcon lascannon field of fire. "So, your Daemon Princess got to see the Steel Falcon light show first hand, eh?" Lolz.

--------------

Game2 - Sigismund(Orks) vs. Ryan(Death Ravens)
2000pts Take and Hold Omega
Sigismund Wins!

25 Death Ravens. Three and a half hours. 144 Orks. Three and a half hours. Sigismund was thought to have brought Tau earlier. Three and a half hours. A few Regulars could use an Advil after reading Sigismund's "New Ork Codex". Oh, and did I tell you their game took three and a half hours? :P

--------------

Game3 - Naj(Dark Angels) vs. Adrian(Twilight Dawn - Chaos Space Marines)
1500pts Secure and Control Alpha
Adrian Wins!

--------------

Game4 - Naj(Dark Angels) vs. Ebon(Deathguard)
1500pts Secure and Control Omega
Ebon Wins!

--------------

Game5 - Alfred(Armored Company) vs. Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines)
2000pts Recon Gamma
Kyuzo Wins!

Baneblade!!! At 577(?) points, dishing out a LOT of firepower including one big-ass ordinance template, it's an intimidating piece on the gaming table. Had to get my Rhino troops to within assault range quickly or I would have trouble getting to what was looking like a solid defensive position. Critical move was baiting half of the Leman Russes to take out a couple of Rhinos and pen them in so my disembarked CSM troops have a chance to close in with meltas and powerfists while Noise Marines who aren't equipped to take out heavy armor so are reduced to do a touchdown role. Armored Company made a gutsy move by wiping out a squad of Chaos Terminators with the Baneblade cannon AT CLOSE RANGE! MVP of the game would be the Chaos Sorceror on bike diverting most of the Baneblade firepower (Alfred threw everything, lascannons, demolisher cannons, even the Baneblade kitchen sink!) and saving ALL instakill fire, as well as one havoc squad hitting the side of the baneblade, taking out TWO structure points in the process!

Game ends with Chaos Space Marines having three units and both HQ's in the endzone against the Armored Company having only the Baneblade remaining on the table with one Structure Point left.

--------------

Game6 - Adrian(Twilight Dawn - Chaos Space Marines) vs. Jessie(Luna Wolves)
2000pts Recon Gamma
Adrian Wins!

--------------

Special thanks to Sigismund for reserving tables for the session as well as Ebon for bringing in some additional terrain. A lot of curious onlookers came to watch and ask about the game too. Balian and Kyuzo's auspexes had their overload moments, while Salubri most likely will be hoarse tomorrow after his match against Orks On Steroids. Hehehe...

Game Session ends 8:00 PM.

HGR Journal Entry No. 042 - Tap Out 40k, HGR Style...

Date: January 26, 2008
Venue: Neutral Grounds Galleria
Regulars in Attendance: Balian, Sigismund, Salubri, Kyuzo, Ebon
Games Played: Warhammer 40k

Highlights:

Third straight Saturday at Galleria! Got to rack in four, count 'em, four games in one table on an afternoon and evening of gaming.

--------------

Game1 - Sigismund(Tau Empire) vs. Balian(Knights of Ibelin)
2000pts Take and Hold Alpha
Sigismund taps out in Turn4. Balian Wins!

Sigis pulls out yet another surprise by bringing in his all-white (but in progress) Tau Empire. Little did he know that Balian was ready for him when he brought out his ALL-WHITE Knights of Ibelin with THREE white Vindicators!!! Lolz.

--------------

Game2 - Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines) vs. Salubri(Death Ravens)
2000pts Take and Hold Alpha
Salubri wins via Massacre on Turn5!

Things went downhill for the forces of Chaos right at the start when a combined attack from Deathwing assault and Ravenwing scouts rendered a havoc squad on one flank useless with a Land Raider providing problems at the opposite flank, destroying one rhino and disrupting what's intended to be a steady press to the center. Forces of Chaos never had a chance to recover with units being picked one by one taking out all Chaos scoring units to leave center uncontested by the Death Ravens.

--------------

Game3 - Balian(Knights of Ibelin) vs. Ebon(Deathguard)
2000pts Secure and Control Gamma
Balian wins via VP!

Immaculate Vindicators DID NOT MISS during the entire game. Enough said. ;)

(the vindicators did miss.. but when they missed, they still hit something :P My MVP for the game though was Balian himself, the Emperor's Champion! Too bad the commander, Godfrey, did not reach combat... my fluff says that dude once fought for two days with a bolter shell in his testicles :P - Balian)

That's what I meant too! Lolz.

--------------

Game4 - Salubri(Death Ravens) vs. Sigismund(Tau Empire)
2000pts Cleanse Gamma
Sigismund taps out in Turn4. Salubri Wins!

This was an interesting game. For starters, it was a relatively fast paced one (with a little help from Balian and Kyuzo doing some quick rules reading and casualty packing for Sigis to focus more on the game). And it was all that shooting from the Tau Empire against Deathwing Terminator armor! Talk about "fighting in the shade"! Now maybe if Sigis HAD first turn was not as tangled up in deployment and made full use of his mobility and be able to spread himself out a little more to max out shooting at the Death Raven spearhead... well... we'll never know now would we? Hehehe...

--------------

Other Warhammer 40k players showed up to pass by or watch the games with us. There was Marty, and er... Marty, and Naj(?) and RJ(?). Maybe they might be able to join us in the next scheduled Saturday game.

Today's Quotable Quote That Sounded Kinda Wrong Award goes to Justin - "Excuse me Emcee, pahipo ng Rhino mo..." :D

Gaming Ended close to Closing Time (9:00PM).

See you next gaming session.

HGR Journal Entry No. 041 - More Galleria Gaming...

Date: January 19, 2008
Venue: Neutral Grounds Galleria
Regulars Present: Kyuzo, Balian, Sigismund, Ebon
Games of Choice: Warhammer 40k
Highlights:

--------------

Game1 - Balian(Ravenwing) vs. Sigismund(Blood Ravens)
2000pts Cleanse Gamma
Balian wins via VP

Ravenwing doing a lot of faking one way and move the other, with Blood Raven terminators zigzaging and shooting behind cover. Sigismund's tactics (and shooting) were sound, dessimating Ravenwing forces to more than half. Only critical error was Sigis had no available units to contest quarters in the closing turns, which pretty much proved to be the points difference between them.

--------------

Game2 - Kyuzo(Chaos Space Marines) vs. Ebon(Deathguard)
2000pts Cleanse Alpha
Ebon wins via Objective [one scoring unit on one uncontested quarter vs. none]

I tried experimenting by making some major adjustments to my Emperor's Children list by mixing in more chaos space marine units along with some rhinos and havocs too. The set-up has its merits, though I guess I should not have been overly aggressive against Deathguard. Plague marines at T5 and Feel No Pain is a pain. Lolz.

It was a close game with Ebon's claiming unit just one model short of not scoring. Had a chance at a draw if it were not for that crucial miss on that lascannon shot at those dudes on the very last turn.

HGR Journal Entry No. 040 - Galleria Learning Experience

Date: January 12, 2008
Venue: NG Galleria
Regulars In Attendance: Balian, Sigismund, Kyuzo
Games of Choice: Warhammer 40k
Highlights:

---------------------

Game1 - Balian(Dark Angels) vs. Sigismund(Blood Ravens)
2000pts Cleanse Omega
Balian wins via VP

---------------------

Game2 - Balian(Dark Angels) vs. Sigismund(Blood Ravens)
2000pts Take and Hold Omega
Balian wins via VP

---------------------

Game3 - Sigismund(Blood Ravens) vs. Kyuzo(Emperors Children)
2000pts Cleanse Alpha
Draw

Playing Emperors Children using the new CSM rules needs a bit of adjustment on my end, especially with the loss of indirect firing defilers, daemon bombing, and daemonic strength powered aspiring champions which my playing style was heavily banking on during the early days. Personal assessment is an uphill climb using a themed army, which with the new rules, does not really restrict you from following nowadays. Figured out a couple of weak points in the army set up I used against Sigis's Blood Ravens, which is something for me to ponder on when I figure out my adjustments for the next gaming session.

HGR Journal Entry No. 039 - Fortune Cookie Crumbling...

Date: January 5, 2008
Venue: Midnight's Place
Regulars Present: Balian, Midnight, Kyuzo
Rules of Engagement: Warhammer 40k
Highlights:

It seems that Balian kept himself busy by assembling and priming 2000pts of Ravenwing over the Christmas holidays! So here we go!

Game1 - Balian(Ravenwing) vs. Midnight(Space Wolves)
2000pts Secure and Control Omega
Balian wins via VP!

Space Wolves had their hands full right from the get-go, with Ravenwing going from one flank to the opposite end in just two turns. What really did them in was the ton of assault cannons and meltas that took out most their infantry and armor respectively.

Ravenwing is scary I tell you. Scary enough for me to admit the Emperor's Children I brought won't be able to last 3 turns against those guys. :P

Had a relatively early dinner over at Shakey's. Then Salubri called in hoping if we can still have coffee at the local Starbucks. Perfect timing.

Balian and I were able to meet up with Salubri over the usual Starbucks. I said perfect timing coz it was the perfect opportunity for me to give Salubri's "fortune cookie" which was with Midnight since Christmas break, and with Balian getting his "fortune cookie" earlier in the day. I'm glad to know that they were happy with what I gave them. ;)

HGR Journal Entry No. 038 - Long Walk to Dinner...

Date: December 22, 2007
Venue: Salubri's Place
Attendees: Salubri, Balian, Joel, Kyuzo
Rules of Engagement: Warhammer 40k, Warmachine/Hordes
Highlights:

Christmas season traffic! Took a while for me to get to Salubri's place after my work (Still working on a Saturday before Christmas! Sheesh.). Hope the others fill in the details of the earlier games.

-------

Game1 - Salubri(Deathwing) vs. Balian(13th Company)

-------

Game2 - Balian(13th Company) vs. Joel(CSM Nurgle)

-------

Game3 - Salubri(Commander Adept Nemo) vs. Balian(Sorscha)
420pts Assassination
Sorscha wins via Assassination

-------

Game4 - Kyuzo(High Allegiant Amon Ad-Raza) vs. Balian(Sorscha)
420pts Assassination
Sorscha wins via Assassination

Made a fatal error in giving Sorscha a charge lane (Right in between Two Devouts! Argh!). Underestimated Icy Gaze and Eiryss's disruption bolts.

-------

Game5 - Kyuzo(High Allegiant Amon Ad-Raza) vs. Salubri(Commander Adept Nemo)
450pts Mangled Metal
Commander Adept Nemo wins via Assassination

Low FOC management still needs some getting used to. Disruption from Nemo and Thunderhead was difficult to neutralize, since most of my tactics using warjacks is very much dependent on focus. Salubri was patient enough to point out some rules which made me rethink my tactics as well in more than one instance during the course of the game. Still a ways to go for me with Amon, with lots of self discovery moments this day to help me out in the games ahead.

-------

Session Ends 7-ish.

Christmas season traffic unusually heavy that night, even to the point that traffic has reached Salubri's street. So we decided to walk to Quattro for dinner. Other than the fact that the walking experience was character building, dinner wasn't as eventful. Plans for the next gaming day set. Until next gaming session.

HGR Journal Entry No. 037 - November 30 Holiday Gaming

With the country barely blinking after another failed Mutiny attempt and an imposed curfew, 101st Regulars meet for some Warhammer 40k and Warmachine gaming. Kyuzo would have been there but he had to call in sick early morning. The guy practically braved a "Warzone" the day before.

Attendees: Midnight ( 'coz it's his house! :P), Balian, Sigismund, Salubri and Joel.

November 30, 2007

Warmachine @ 420 pts
Salubri's Nemo vs Balian's Sorscha
Nemo Wins by Assassination (Killing Field HGR version)

The Old man fires the first shot of the game and took out Balian's manhuntress and widow makers with nasty Chain Lightning rolls. Next turn saw the Spriggan immobilized with Voltaic Snare and pushed back from the objective by the GMC adepts gun. Balian decided to forego the objective and went in for the kill. Sorscha feat turn saw the death of the GMC adept and turns everything Cygnar useless except for Nemo hiding behind a hill. Drakhun charges Nemo but after racking up 4 additional focus to his 7 the old man survives! The following turns saw Nemo once again raking up additonal focus from Sorscha and Grey Lords spell casting and the eventual defeat of Sorscha at the hands of the Thunderhead.

Warmachine @ 750 pts
Midnight's Thagrosh vs Salubri's Epic Stryker
Midnight Wins by Objective (Killing Field HGR version)

First time I've seen Legion of Everblight with a list brimming with Warbeasts great and small. Assassination was once again out of the question and I was forced to duke it out with Midnight with one critical blooper that may have cost me the game. I ended up killing one warbeast on a trample attack which gave Thagrosh fury for transferring damage. I opted to throw the Carnevaen away as I did not want to destroy it and have to face it with full life again when Thagrosh does his feat. Plans to kill Thagrosh on the final turns failed though as I took too long to do it and Midnight racked up on Control Points. I hate Death Shroud... and that freaking Pow 15 spell. Aaaaeiii!!! Lol

Salubri's thought during the game: "Nooo don't cast that damned spell on my Thunderhead!" lol

Warhammer 40,000 @ 2000 pts
Balian's 13th Company vs Sigismund's Speed Freaks
Balian Wins
Take and hold(?)

---------------------------------------------------------------

Joel was unable to play due to time constraints. Sorry man. We'll make it up to you next time! I've got a box to put my Deathwing in. I can play 40k again! lol

The guys wrapped it up early with a trip to Max's for dinner. Talks about new orks, eldar cheesiness and some notable differences about 40k and Warmachine ensued. Once again everyone had a problem paying with the magic 500 php bill. lol
